Rajasthan Royals star Dhruv Jurel received his maiden call-up to the national side after BCCI selected him in India’s 16-player squad for the forthcoming Test series against England. Mere days prior to the high-profile series, the 22-year-old has apparently already identified what he needs to learn from the upcoming experience.

While speaking with the Rajasthan Royals on their official website, Jurel also revealed how his father reacted to the news of his national selection, and shared the congratulatory message he personally received from IPL teammate Jos Buttler.

Dhruv Jurel aiming to maximize Test experience

Dhruv Jurel is aiming to use his maiden Test call-up for the Indian team as a platform to develop “mental fortitude”. While speaking with the Rajasthan Royals on their official website, the youngster claimed that he wants to make sure that he sustains his international career, by raking in much experience at the highest level in his first series itself. He said:

“The most important learning that I'd want to take away from this series is how to develop the mental fortitude that is needed to survive at the highest level. A lot of players get call-ups, but only a few are able to sustain themselves.”

Dhruv Jurel also revealed how his father reacted to the news of his national selection. When the news broke out of India’s 16-player squad, he called and informed his father, who in turn asked which Indian team was he talking about. The cricketer cited the names of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, and added that he is talking about the same team which the two legendary batsmen play for, and not for India A or other junior teams.

“I immediately called my father to tell him and his first question was, 'Which Indian team? Aren't you already playing for one of them?'. I said, 'The same one in which Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma play'. He couldn't believe it.”

The Uttar Pradesh-based wicketkeeper-batsman further revealed that he received a congratulatory text from Englishman and Rajasthan Royals teammate Jos Buttler, who wrote:

"Good to see you in the Indian team, long way to go.”

India’s five-match Test series against England is set to commence from January 25 onwards at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
