In a must-win game for defending champions at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua, on June 15, England secured a crucial 41-run (DLS) victory over Namibia in the 34th match of the T20 World Cup 2024.

This win propels England to second place in Group B, with their fate in the tournament now hinging on the result of the Australia vs Scotland match.

Buttler Praises Team's Performance In Stressful Conditions

After the game, England captain Jos Buttler expressed relief and satisfaction with his team's performance under challenging conditions.

"Big relief. It was certainly a stressful day with the rain coming down, but I thought we put in a really good performance. I think everyone managed the situation well. We were well-prepared when we did play and performed admirably," Buttler remarked.

Namibia won the toss and opted to bowl first in the rain-curtailed 11-over game, which was later reduced to 10 overs due to a brief rain break in the first innings.

England's start was shaky, with Phil Salt (11) and Buttler (0) departing cheaply. However, Jonny Bairstow (31) and Harry Brook (47) forged a vital 56-run partnership that steadied the innings, and helped England post 122/5 in 10 overs.

Reflecting on the innings, Buttler said, "Yeah, I thought that was a really good score on that wicket. After I got out, I was thinking 85 or 90 might be a really good score, considering how the ball was sticking in the wicket. Credit to Bairstow and Brook for their fantastic partnership, with great cameos from Moeen and Livi as well."

In their chase, Namibia's innings were led by Michael van Lingen (33) and Nikolaas Davin (18), but they struggled to maintain the required run rate.

Davin retired out to bring David Wiese to the crease, who played a quickfire 27 off 12 balls.

Despite his efforts, Namibia could only muster 84/3 in their 10 overs. Jofra Archer and Chris Jordan took a wicket each for England.
