India has produced some immortal bowling legends for world cricket, but a bowler like Jasprit Bumrah comes only once in a lifetime. Making his debut just as another fast bowler, the ace pacer carved his name into cricket history.
As he never fails to amaze the cricket world, former Indian player Aakash Chopra hailed Bumrah’s brilliance. In a recent chat, he revealed that Pakistani legend Waqar Younis also praised Bumrah as one of the best in the game.
Waqar Younis Hails Bumrah As The ‘Best’
In today’s cricket landscape, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah stands tall as a true legend and one of the greatest fast bowlers of all time. Whether it's in away or home conditions, longer or shorter formats, Bumrah’s brilliance never fades away, as the cricket world never fails to praise the star. The last Test series against Australia witnessed Bumrah’s prime form. In the recently ended Test series against England, Bumrah made his impact only in three matches.
As he earns praises from the entire world, former Pakistani legends are no different. Speaking on his YouTube Channel, Aakash Chopra shared that when he compared Bumrah with Wasim Akram, legendary pacer Waqar Younis didn’t hesitate to call Bumrah the “Best.”
“We were in a car. Waqar Younis was with me. I asked him, 'The entire cricket world has respect for Wasim Akram for the variations in his bowling and the control he possessed. He was par excellence. Bumrah is like right-handed Wasim Akram, right?' He replied, 'No, he is better than all of us. We didn't have this thinking level at his age. His skill is better, his thinking is better. He is the best that the world has ever seen,” he said.
Aakash Chopra Slams Trolls Over Bumrah
After Team India ended the Test series on a draw, Jasprit Bumrah found himself at the receiving end of harsh criticism. Due to workload, the speedster only played in three Test matches and made his impact, but unfortunately, India lost two of them, and another one ended in a draw. As the fans went harsh on the bowler, Aakash Chopra took a dig at them.
“It was being said that India couldn't have a better captain than Jasprit Bumrah. It was being asked why bowlers can't become captains, as he was vice-captain under Rohit Sharma's captaincy and had captained in Perth and won the match as well, so he should become the captain,” he said.
“This is how it started, and this is how it's going - trolling, that when he plays, the team loses, and doesn't take full responsibility when he plays, which means from Boom Boom Bumrah, our fans have become gumrah (gone astray). I am very, very surprised and sorry,” he added.
As the workload has become a huge concern for the bowler, his participation in the Asia Cup 2025 is yet to be decided. The home Test series against West Indies kicks off in October, just four days after the Asia Cup final. If Team India reaches the final clash and Bumrah features in it, his availability for the Test opener could be in serious doubt.
