'Beating England in Test...': Andrew Balbirnie Ahead of Ireland's One-Off Test

After a string of losses against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Tests recently, Ireland gear up to take on the mighty England in a one-off Test at the Lord's which starts on Thursday. Ireland nearly managed to upstage England, last time these two sides faces off at Lord's in 2019, where they lost by 143 runs, despite bundling out the hosts for 85 in their first innings.

Ireland have a history of punching their weight around against much more accomplished opponents, having beaten England multiple times in World Cup events. However, they are yet to win a Test, having lost all their six outings.

Skipper Andrew Balbirnie on the eve of the one-off Test expressed his willingness to win against England, which could be the biggest achievement for Ireland cricket in cricket.

Ireland's task is already tough with England being unstoppable under the new Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes regime, winning as many as 10 out of their last 12 Tests since taking over as coach and captain, respectively.

Here's what Balbirnie said

"It didn't play out the way we wanted to, but we got a glimpse into what would happen if we were to win a Test. And, I think if we were to beat England, it would easily be our best achievement in cricket in the game."

Ireland will be without the services of Joshua Little, who has been rested for the England Test, keeping in mind the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers in Zimbabwe.
