Fresh trouble is brewing for IPL 2025 winners Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as the BCCI Ombudsman-cum-Ethics Officer Justice (Retd) Arun Mishra has issued a directive demanding written submissions from both the franchise and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA).

The officer has questioned the negligence that led to a stampede during the team's victory celebrations at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4.

"Looking at the gravity of the incident, it is considered appropriate that the Karnataka (State) Cricket Association, as well as the concerned franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore be asked to submit their written replied to the complaint," Justice Mishra wrote in his directive.

Four-Week Window To Respond

It is important to mention that Justice Mishra has granted both RCB and the KSCA four weeks to file their responses, followed by a 10-day period for any rejoinders.

The complaint centers around mismanagement and violation of safety protocols during the open celebration event that drew an uncontrolled crowd outside the stadium, resulting in the deadly stampede.

"This complaint has been filed in relation to the unfortunate stampede at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on 04.06.2025. Complaint alleges gross negligence and violation of safety norms by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) franchise. Complainant submits that accountability must be fixed. Prayer has been made for the suspension of the RCB franchise and for invalidating ongoing sale negotiations."

The Ombudsman’s action comes amid growing whispers that the RCB ownership group is exploring a potential sale of the franchise. The complainant has alleged that the move may be a way to distance the current owners from any legal or ethical accountability stemming from the stampede.

Tribunal Blames RCB For Tragedy

It is also important to note that the CAT recently ruled in a parallel proceeding that RCB was directly responsible for the unregulated mass gathering, intensifying scrutiny on the franchise. The tribunal questioned the Karnataka Government's suspension of IPS officer Vikas Kumar, who had faced disciplinary action post-tragedy.

The incident has sparked outrage criticism, with many questioning how basic crowd control protocols failed during a high-profile public event. RCB, despite their on-field success, now finds itself under intense scrutiny.
