In a candid conversation with cricket journalist Vimal Kumar, IPL chairman Arun Dhumal has cleared the air on any retirement rumours and ODI World Cup 2027 future regarding Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

The ex-treasurer of the BCCI was quite vocal and chirpy with his enthusiastic view on the Indian star duo as he commented on their future on the YouTube channel of Vimalwa.

Arun Dhumal comments on Virat Kohli and Rohit's future

When Vimal asked Dhumal what he thinks about the future of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s form and fitness leading to the 2027 World Cup, Dhumal denied commenting sternly on the mega ICC event which will take place after two years.

“These rumours and talks are not spread by the BCCI. It was spread by the media and the people. They themselves decided to retire from T20I and Test cricket and are now available for ODIs. The concrete mission and motivation Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have, I think, there should be no doubts or questions,” Dhumal told Vimal on his YouTube channel.

Arun Dhumal then went on to appreciate the level of fitness they display and why BCCI can’t even consider forcing them into early retirements. Dhumal termed them as ‘living legends’ as Kohli continues to display peak athleticism and Rohit looks sharper than ever.

“Till the time they are fit to play and are performing on the ground, nobody can think of excluding them from playing. Sochna bhi nahi chahiye. They are living legends. The level of fitness Virat Kohli is showing, I think he should do what Sachin Tendulkar did in the 2011 World Cup. The same goes for Rohit Sharma, he is phenomenal,” Dhumal added.

Dhumal then strictly advised against intervening between their choices, as the former HPCA president thinks there will be no questions asked till they perform.

"So I think till the day they say they are fit to play, no one should intervene between them, and no questions will be asked if they are performing on the ground," Dhumal concluded.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have a bit of leisure time in their hands after the conclusion of the South Africa ODIs and leading into the New Zealand ODIs next year, the duo will also feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 as the BCCI issued an unofficial mandate for the players.
