'Barish Ne Bacha Liya' - Shoaib Akhtar Attacks Babar & Co. After Amateur Bowling Display

Legendary Pakistani paceman Shoaib Akhtar reckons that his side got lucky after the heavens opened on Sunday to effectively bring the Super-4 game to a complete standstill. He believes that the rain interruption came in as a blessing in disguise for the Men in Green who had already conceded a significant amount of runs in the first half of the first innings.

Akhtar was visibly not impressed by Babar Azam’s call to the field first. The Pakistani skipper's decision came under heavy fire as Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma blossomed with the bat to put on a robust 121-run stand for the first wicket to deflate Pakistan in the first 15 overs. The Pakistani bowlers were able to pull things back by sending Gill and Sharma back into the hut before rain forced the play to stop.

In a video posted on Akhtar’s Twitter account, the former fast-bowling sensation expressed that he traveled all the way to Colombo to see his side do better in their second game against India.

In this video, the 48-year-old can be heard saying that rain favored both sides on both occasions. He went on to say that India was fortunate enough to get away during the league stage of the Asia Cup tournament following an extended rain interruption. However, this time around he feels that the rain rescued his side (Pakistan) from a potentially embarrassing result.

“Match dekhne aaya tha, hum sare fans bhi wait kar rahe hai, Indians bhi Pakistani bhi. Lekin barish ne bacha liya humein, finally! Pehle India phass gya tha humare aagey, barish ne bacha lia. Aaj hum phas gaye the India ke samne, shukr hai barish ne bach lia. Hope match can finish off and we’ll be able to resume this time tomorrow, and by making a wise decision not to bowl first”

Fans from either side are desperately hoping for the weather conditions to improve on the reserve day. The game will resume from where it was halted with India at 147/2 after 24.1 overs. However, with a grim weather forecast around the corner, it is highly unlikely that we will get to see a full day’s worth of cricket.
