Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto fired a stern warning towards Team India ahead of the upcoming two-match Test series between the two nations. While speaking with the reporters a day prior to the series opener at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium, Shanto said that his team holds the ability of playing good cricket on Indian surfaces, and they are determined to play according to their strengths.

It is worth noting that the Bangladesh team recently upstaged Pakistan in Pakistan by securing a historic 2-0 series win. While Bangladesh is yet to secure a single win over India, either home or away, Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team will be aiming to capitalise on their newfound winning moment against WTC final contenders.

Bangladesh captain warns Team India

While speaking with the reporters, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto said that his team will try to play according to their strengths and will do “what is needed” to win against India. He added that the current Bangladesh team has the ability to put up a good show on Indian surfaces. Shanto said:

“We will do what's needed to win a match. We will worry about the result in the final session of the fifth day. Before that, we will try to play according to our strengths. I think it's important to think about ourselves rather than thinking about opponents. What strengths we have. I believe we have the ability to play good cricket here. It's important how we can play good cricket for five days.”

The visiting skipper recalled Bangladesh’s recent series win in Pakistan. He further claimed that his players are not concerned about the outcome and are only trying to follow their process. He added:

“We played very good cricket in Pakistan but now that is in the past. But we are here to play a new series and the dressing room believes that we can play very good cricket here. And we are not thinking about the outcome, we are just trying to follow our processes.”

Bangladesh unfazed by pitch, says skipper

Najmul Hossain Shanto said that he does not want to look much into the possible playing conditions that awaits them at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium. He added that his players will adapt to the wicket as quickly as the action commences on September 19 at the iconic venue. He added:

“Regarding the wicket, from what I've seen, it should be a good wicket. Don't want to talk much about pace or spin bowling. We will try to adapt to the wicket as quickly as possible tomorrow because I think we have a good balance of spin and pace. So there is nothing to worry much about.”

The two-match Test series between India and Bangladesh will also constitute a part of the ongoing 2023-25 WTC cycle. The first Test will be played between September 19 and September 23 and the action will commence from 9:30 AM IST onwards on match days.
