Pakistan have a rich history in the Champions Trophy. The winners of the last edition, the Asian giants have always been a top-notch side in the 8-team tournament, and they finally tasted success in 2017, when under the leadership of Sarfaraz Ahmed, Pakistan thrashed India to win the coveted event.

In the last 7 years since that monumental event, things have changed for Pakistan ODI side. The core of the team has been taken out, and fresh faces have been brought in. However, there remain three players from the 2017 Champions Trophy squad, who will most likely represent Pakistan in the 2025 edition, set to take place in their country.

We take a look at 3 Pakistan players, who tasted success in the 2017 edition of Champions Trophy, and are still in the ODI squad.

3) Babar Azam

Babar Azam, the King of Pakistan cricket, is arguably one of the best batters of the modern era. Interestingly, Champions Trophy 2017 was his first major ICC tournament, and he tasted success in it. He played 5 matches and contributed 133 runs, at an average of 44.33.

He didn't score a fifty in the tournament, but his most important knock came in the finals against India. On a logvely batting track, Babar continued the momentum set by the openers and slammed a crucial 52-ball 46, which helped Pakistan breach the 300-run mark.

Fast forward 7-years later, Babar is one of the key players for the Pakistan side in the ODIs, and the nation will hope that the talented batter can give more joy to the fans by winning yet another Champions Trophy.

2) Fakhar Zaman

Who can forget Fakhar Zaman's monumental knock in the Champions Trophy final? A relatively unknown commodity in 2017, Fakhar announced his arrival by smashing the Indian bowlers all around the park.

He got a lifeline early in the innings, and the explosive batter took full advantage of it, smashing a quick-fire 114 off 106 balls. In the last 7-years, Fakhar has been a key figure in the 50-over side, and was Pakistan's best batter in the 50-over World Cup, which took place in India.

In the upcoming Champions Trophy, Fakhar will most probably open for Pakistan, and the team management will hope that the left-handed batter continues to provide attacking starts to his side.

1) Shadab Khan

There were lots of expectations from Shadab Khan, when he bursted onto the scene, however, the talented all-rounder has failed to live up to the expectations. Just like Babar, Shadab, too, had a breakout Champions Trophy 2017, where he scalped 4 wickets, and two of those came in the finals against India.

With the bat, he was not required to deliver much, but it was his bowling that mesmerised the Pakistan fans. Fast forward 7-years later, Shadab's performance has gone down in the ODI format. He now averages 34 with the ball and a mere 25 with the bat, and the wicket-taking threat has also diminished.

However, the Pakistan side have consistently backed Shadab and expect him to be a part of the Pakistan squad in the upcoming Champions Trophy.
