England clawed their way back into the Ashes 2023, snatching a thrilling three-wicket victory in the third Test at Headingley to reduce the series deficit to 1-2. The fourth Test is slated to be played at the Emirates Old Trafford in Manchester, starting Wednesday, July 19, and the excitement for the contest is discernible.

Ben Duckett anticipates Australia's discomfort against Mark Wood

For the third Test, England had made a significant change to their bowling line-up as they benched experienced James Anderson for Mark Wood. The decision was justified as Wood delivered a stunning all-round performance which helped the hosts make a comeback in the series.

Ahead of the fourth Test, England opener, Ben Duckett, has expressed his conviction that Australia would rather not face Wood in the upcoming matches.

He also admired Wood's swift bowling despite his size and praised his contribution with the bat as well.

"I also know for a fact Australia will not want Woody to play these last two games. It’s so weird; how does he bowl so fast? He’s not a big bloke, it’s just arm-speed, I guess. He’s so skiddy and always at you, so I’m very happy he’s on my team. And it’s not just with the ball, the way he took them on with the bat was game-changing," said Duckett, as quoted by the Guardian.

Notably, Wood was adjudged the Player of the Match in the third game in Leeds for his brilliant all-round contribution.

Beyond his commanding presence with the ball, Wood demonstrated his batting brilliance. He boosted England's spirits with a brisk 24-run innings off merely eight balls in the first innings.

Later, during England's high-pressure chase with wickets dwindling, the lanky speedster proved to be a valuable partner to Chris Woakes, adding an extra 16 runs off eight balls, thus playing an instrumental role in England's much-needed victory.
