Bangladesh veteran Shakib Al Hasan is on course of joining an elite all-rounders club in Test cricket. The 37-year-old, currently in India for a two-match Test series, might well join the group through the impending WTC fixtures.

The club in contention already features a slew of legendary all-rounders in the form of Kapil Dev, Ian Botham, Jacques Kallis and Daniel Vettori.

Shakib Al Hasan About To Enter History Books

A veteran of 69 Test matches, Shakib Al Hasan has tallied 4,543 runs in 126 innings at a splendid batting average of 38.50. The left-handed batter has scored his runs at a swift pace, considering he holds a strike-rate of nearly 62. Ever since he made his format debut back in May 2007 with a match against India, Shakib Al Hasan has pounded five tons and 31 half-centuries.

All his batting milestones aside, Shakib has also picked up 242 Test wickets through his left-arm spin trade. If the seasoned Bangladeshi cricketer manages to add eight more wickets to his illustrious pile, he will become only the fifth all-rounder to simultaneously aggregate over 4,000 runs and 250 wickets in Test history.

The 37-year-old might well scale the feat through the upcoming two-match series against Team India in Chennai and Kanpur later this month.

As of now, the elite all-rounder’s list is spearheaded by the following four cricketers:

Players
Teams
Runs and Wickets
Jacques KallisSouth Africa13,289 runs and 292 wickets
Kapil DevIndia5,248 runs and 434 wickets
Ian BothamEngland5,200 runs and 383 wickets
Daniel VettoriNew Zealand4,531 runs and 362 wickets

Shakib Al Hasan recently played a crucial role for Bangladesh in their 2-0 series triumph over Pakistan at the Rawalpindi Stadium. He picked up five wickets across the series, which included a match-winning three-wicket haul in the first Test to limit Pakistan to just 146.

The legendary Bangladesh all-rounder will start out as one of the seniormost members from the visitor’s group when they take on Team India at Chennai’s Chepauk Stadium on September 19.
