Team India bundled out for just 201 on Day 3 of the series-deciding second Test against South Africa in Guwahati. Crumbling in front of Marco Jansen and Simon Harmer, India’s latest debacle conceded a huge 288-run advantage to the visitors at the halfway stage of the match.

Despite Team India’s troubles, former all-rounder and legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remained optimistic about India’s chances in the second innings, but at the same time, the ex-cricketer admitted that he has been left “heartbroken” by the body language of the players.

Taking to X shortly after the launch of Day 4, former Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin said that he is still hopeful of India’s chances for the Guwahati Test. However, the legendary off-spinner also implied that the body language of the Indian players on the field is giving off negativity.

Ravichandran Ashwin wrote:

“I really hope we can bounce back while batting in the 2nd innings, but indications on the field with respect to body language.”

Ravichandran Ashwin also shared a picture of India’s interim captain Rishabh Pant on his post, thus indicating that the blistering wicketkeeper-batter is unusually quite behind the stumps, as opposed to his chirpy nature.

Despite Ashwin’s claims, the mood of the Indian players on the field received a major uplift after legendary all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja struck twice with the ball before lunch. The cricketer dismissed both of South Africa’s overnight openers, Ryan Rickelton and Aiden Markram, before captain Temba Bavuma got trapped by Indian spinner Washington Sundar as the visitors reached 77-3 in 31.3 overs.

Earlier in the match, Senuran Muthusamy scored his maiden Test century while Marco Jansen slapped 93 at better than run-a-ball as South Africa mounted 489. A six-wicket haul from Jansen and a three-fer from Simon Harmer further devastated India, as they fell 288 runs behind the visitors.

At the time of publishing, the South African lead was motoring towards the 450-run mark in the middle of lunch and tea breaks.
