The year 2025 has been a mixed year for the Pakistan cricket team, as they have played numerous matches across formats but have experienced little to no success. The team crashed out of the Champions Trophy group stage, but did decently in the UAE tri-Nation series and also reached the finals of the Asia Cup.
Currently, the team is participating in another T20I tri-series tournament, and under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha, they are undefeated, having won all their matches. The captain of the T20I side has done exceptionally well in the ODIs and Tests, but has struggled in the T20I format. Despite this hurdle, Salman Agha has surpassed MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid in an interesting record.
Salman Agha surpasses India's legendary duo in huge feat
The Pakistan captain has played 54 international matches this year, the most by any player in a single calendar year. He surpassed India’s MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid, who played 53 matches respectively. Dravid achieved the feat in 1999, while MSD played 53 games in 2007.
In 2025, he has played 5 Tests, 17 ODIs, and 32 T20I matches as the batter has played a total of 54 matches, and there are still matches left for Pakistan this year.
Salman Agha's mixed fortunes in 2025
Salman Agha has had a mixed 2025 - both in terms of batting and in captaincy. Under his leadership in T20Is, Pakistan has seen stability, as the side reached the tri-nations final and also reached the Asia Cup finale, only to lose against India.
Moreover, his T20I batting has been affected by the captaincy burden as the batter has a strike rate of only 113 in 2025.
However, in ODIs and Tests, Salman Agha has been a different batter as the right-handed player has notched up 667 runs in 17 ODIs, and 277 runs in five Tests this year.
