India are preparing for the final and most important match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which is scheduled to begin on July 31 at The Oval in London. With the series on the line, the focus is now on Jasprit Bumrah, India’s top fast bowler.
Since this is the last game of the five-match series and the result will decide the trophy winner, it is not confirmed whether Bumrah will be back in the playing XI. The match is crucial for India because they must win it to tie the series 2-2. If they lose or even draw, England will become the first-ever winners of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Gambhir Shares A Fitness Update On Bumrah
After the fourth Test ended in a draw at Old Trafford, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir addressed the media and gave an update on Bumrah’s condition. He mentioned that there are no injury concerns with Bumrah or any of the other fast bowlers in the squad.
"There has been no discussion about anyone and no decision has been made whether Jasprit Bumrah will play in the last test match or not. Ultimately, whoever plays, whether they play or not, they will try and do the job for the country," Gambhir said at the post-match press-conference.
He also said, "All fast bowlers are fit, there is no injury."
Although Gambhir has reassured that Bumrah is fit, there were some concerns during the previous Test match. Bumrah’s pace had noticeably dropped, and he was seen limping back to the dressing room after one of his spells. At one point, he even struggled to climb the stairs, raising fears of a possible injury.
Meanwhile, the rest of India fast bowlers are also under physical strain. Akash Deep is recovering from a groin injury, Arshdeep Singh injured his bowling hand before the match, and Mohammed Siraj has been bowling continuously in all four Tests so far. Despite this, Gambhir made it clear that all pacers are currently fit and available.
Jasprit Bumrah's Performance So Far
Even though Bumrah didn’t perform at his best in the fourth Test, where he managed to take only two wickets while conceding 112 runs in 33 overs, his overall performance in the series has been impressive.
The 31-year-old fast bowler has taken a total of 14 wickets in the four matches he played, including two five-wicket hauls. His bowling average stands at 26.00, making him one of the key players in India’s bowling unit throughout the tour.
