In the latest update, England have made a change to their men’s squad ahead of the fifth and final Test of the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. All-rounder Jamie Overton has been added to the team for the upcoming match against India, which is scheduled to begin on July 31 at the Kennington Oval, London.
This change comes after the fourth Test in Manchester, which ended in a draw. Although England dominated most of the game, India fought back strongly to avoid defeat.
As a result, the series stands at 2-1 in England’s favour. However, the outcome of the fifth Test will now decide who takes home the trophy.
Jamie Overton Recalled To England Squad
Moreover, Overton’s return adds depth to the pace attack. He previously played for Chennai Super Kings in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season and earned his only Test cap back in 2022. Now, he joins fellow pace bowlers Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue in the 15-member squad.
This marks Overton as the sixth frontline pacer in the group. Although he was included in the squad for the first three Tests of the series, he did not make the playing XI.
With Ben Stokes potentially returning to full fitness, Overton could be in line to replace either Chris Woakes or Brydon Carse in the upcoming match.
Although the 31-year-old batter has played just one first-class match since May due to a finger injury he picked up while playing for England in an ODI against the West Indies, he returned to action recently in a County Championship match for Surrey.
Therefore, his selection marks the only change to the squad from the previous Test at Old Trafford, where India managed to keep the series alive with a gritty draw.
England's Updated Squad For Fifth Test
Ben Stokes (Captain), Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Zak Crawley, Liam Dawson, Ben Duckett , Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, Chris Woakes
