‘Ah, Cool! But It Doesn't..,’ - Cummins' Savage Reply To Hafeez’s ‘PAK Played Better’ Remark

Australia, bolstered by captain Pat Cummins and his twin five-wicket hauls, crushed Pakistan by 79 runs at the MCG to go 2-0 up in their three-match series. Defending 317 runs on Day 4, the speedster struck five times in his 18-over workload, accounting for well-set visiting batters Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan before mopping up the tail alongside pacemate Mitchell Starc.

However, Rizwan’s dismissal at the hands of Cummins unfurled much controversy in the final session of the day, considering the third umpire went through several television replays for a faint caught-behind appeal before ruling the decision in favour of the bowler.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Pakistan Director of Cricket Mohammad Hafeez blamed poor umpiring and technology for his team’s huge defeat and even went on to claim that his side played better cricket in the match than Australia.

Responding to Mohammad Hafeez’s remark that ‘Pakistan played better cricket than Australia’, winning captain Pat Cummins said:

“Ahh, cool. It doesn't really matter, does it? It's the team who wins at the end.”

The visitors, chasing 317, were cruising at 219-5 at one stage with a well-set Mohammad Rizwan batting at the crease. However, his controversial dismissal triggered a colossal lower-order batting collapse within the Pakistani camp, considering they lost their final five wickets for just 18 additional runs to get folded up for 237.

Pat Cummins finished his second innings spell with astonishing figures of 5-49 to secure a remarkable match-haul of 10-97 off 38 combined overs. The Australian speedster was also adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ after his side concluded the proceedings with a 79-run win.

Pakistan and hosts Australia will now face each other in the third and final Test match, set to be played between January 3 and January 7 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
