Team India had a near-perfect time at the World Cup 2023, having won 10 games on the trot and the only defeat that came India's way was the one in the final against Australia, who went on to clinch their sixth title. The Indian players contributed as a unit throughout the tournament and KL Rahul was one of the major contributors to India's success.

Rahul got injured while playing in the IPL, and considering the magnitude of the injury, KL's surgeon did not think he would be able to get back on the field in time for the World Cup. KL Rahul revealed what his surgeon said and how he made a comeback after the injury.

In the show 'Believe' organized by StarSports, KL Rahul who played an exceptional brand of cricket throughout the World Cup shared his comeback story with the fans during the South Africa tour.

Even on the ongoing tour of South Africa, KL smashed a century in the first innings of the first Test, when his team needed him the most. He also scored a half-century in the ODIs and led the Indian team to victory in the ODI series.

Here's what KL Rahul said about his comeback before the World Cup:

“During all of this time, I knew there was pressure to come back and all of that, but I had such a bad event that happened in my life that everything else seemed like, okay, it doesn’t, really matter. Everything else seemed smaller compared to, tearing your quadriceps and going through surgery. I couldn’t walk for the first three or four weeks."

Having not been able to walk for weeks, KL Rahul not only had to recover before the World Cup but at least a month before the tournament, as he had to gain some match time and experience coming back after a long time. His surgeon did not think he could be fit in time for the tournament, but KL did everything he could and came back into the squad, scoring a hundred in the game against Pakistan in the Super 4s of the Asia Cup 2023.
