Cricket Australia unveiled their 15-player line-up for the upcoming World Cup 2023 in India earlier this week. As one can expect, white-ball zealot and in-form spinner Adam Zampa found his name in the squad, set to helmed by Pat Cummins.

Currently in South Africa for a five-match ODI series, Zampa recently interacted with the International Cricket Council (ICC) on their socials. During the interaction, the 31-year-old named one of his teammates as a top contender to go big with the bat in India in next month’s premier ODI event.

Adam Zampa believes his Australian teammate, opening batsman Travis Head will emerge as the leading run-scorer of the 2023 World Cup in India. The ace spinner made the assumption during his recent interaction with the ICC. He said:

“Travis Head has been playing some really good cricket lately. He’s destructive. Will potentially open the batting for us. A really dangerous player and he can score some big runs too when he gets going.”

Both Zampa and Head are currently in South Africa for a five-match pre-World Cup dress rehearsal. The opening batter slapped an attacking 33 upfront in Australia’s 223-run task in the first ODI in Bloemfontein.

Head’s dismissal triggered a colossal batting collapse within the Australian camp, before Marnus Labuschagne guided his side past the finishing line with an imperial 80*. Zampa himself finished with an economical 10-over spell (1-42) during the South African innings in the first half of the game.

Earlier this month, Australia’s interim skipper Mitchell Marsh confirmed that Travis Head will indeed be opening the innings at the 2023 World Cup in India alongside seasoned campaigner David Warner. When a reporter asked the premier all-rounder is he was considering to open the batting by himself in Indian conditions, he said:

“We have Travis Head and Australia’s best-ever all-three-format player there (David Warner), so I dare say I probably won’t be opening the batting.”

Australia will commence their 2023 World Cup campaign with a match against tournament hosts India on October 8. The contest is scheduled to be played out at Chennai’s M. A. Chidambaram Stadium.
