In a significant development, India took an unassailable 1-0 lead in the ongoing home series by defeating the West Indies by a whopping margin of an innings and 140 runs. After posting a massive total of 448 runs in the first innings, India bowled out the visitors for a paltry 146-run score, securing an emphatic victory at Narendra Modi Stadium. India's thumping win over the Caribbean men helped the hosts earn crucial points in the World Test Championship standings.

Led by Shubman Gill, India claimed the third position after securing a historic draw in the Test series in England. Their victory in the first Test against the West Indies helped the Indian side register their third win of the ongoing WTC cycle, increasing their percentage of points by a significant margin. 

India had a PCT of 46.67 prior to the Ahmedabad Test; but now they have taken their tally to 55.56, consolidating their position as the third-ranked side in the standings. Meanwhile, the West Indies have yet to open their account, reeling at sixth position in the WTC points table. 

2025 WTC runners-up Australia still claim the first position, winning all their Tests in this cycle. Sri Lanka are placed second with a PCT of 66.67, with England and Bangladesh claiming the fourth and fifth place, respectively. While West Indies are sixth, New Zealand, Pakistan and South Africa are yet to play a match in the ongoing WTC cycle. 

With this win, India have taken a crucial 1-0 lead in the series. The decider of the series will be played at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi from October 10 to 14.
