'Above 145kmph...,' Lasith Malinga Shares Priceless Advice To Disciple Jasprit Bumrah

Sri Lanka's former pace spearhead, Lasith Malinga, shares his advice for his favourite disciple Jasprit Bumrah. As the focus is on Bumrah and India during the course of Asia Cup 2023, Malinga has talked about the Indian seamer's bowling.

The Sri Lankan seamer, who was with Bumrah since his initial days in the Mumbai Indians camp, was instrumental in fast-tracking his progress. He believes Bumrah's coming back from a long injury layoff will boost India's bowling attack. His partnering with Mohammad Shami will form a potent bowling attack on home soil. But Malinga thinks Bumrah needs to focus on returning his rhythm for the marquee event.

Though Bumrah had already returned to international cricket through T20Is against Ireland, he still needs to bow in 50 overs format. The little he bowled in Ireland, he looked to be back at his absolute best. However, the opponents and conditions will prepare him much better during the ongoing Asia Cup. Malinga, who is now in Melbourne, spoke with The Telegraph.

"Since (Jasprit) Bumrah is coming back from a back injury, it’s important for him to work on his rhythm and target bowling consistently, especially his yorkers, above 145kmph come the World Cup," Malinga said.

When asked about India's bowling attack being the best or not in the World Cup, Malinga feels it will be tough to say. The Lankan legend talked highly about England and Australia and even applauded the up-and-coming seamers from Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

On the cricketing upfront, Malinga will return to his home Mumbai Indians, replacing their long-time bowling coach Shane Bond.
