Former India cricketer and legend Sachin Tendulkar heaped praise on Yashasvi Jaiswal after the young batter scored his maiden Test century on his India debut during the match against West Indies in Dominica.

Yashasvi, a renowned run-scorer in both domestic cricket and the IPL, was bestowed with his first Test cap for India in the ongoing match against West Indies.

The 21-year-old proved his worth by delivering an exceptional performance as the opening batter, smashing a brilliant century to firmly place India in control of the game.

The Mumbai batter reached the three-run mark and brought up his maiden hundred in just 215 balls. The 21-year-old joined an elite list of Indian batters to score a hundred on their Test debut.

Not just this, Yashasvi Jaiswal, together with Rohit Sharma, shattered a 17-year-old record previously held by Wasim Jaffer and Virender Sehwag for the highest opening partnership against West Indies.

The dynamic duo forged a formidable 229-run alliance for the first wicket, surpassing Jaffer-Sehwag's 159-run opening partnership achieved in St Lucia in 2006.

Following his remarkable innings on Thursday, Jaiswal has been showered with praise, and the most recent compliment came from none other than the legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar.

The batting demigod took to Twitter to extend his congratulations to Jaiswal. He also lauded the Indian captain for his century, which is his just second Test century away from home. Here’s what he wrote:

"A यशस्वी start to your Test career, @ybj_19! Well done.👏🏼

And a splendid century by @ImRo45."

Rohit Sharma's innings came to an end at 103 runs as Alick Athanaze dismissed him, whereas Shubman Gill could only muster six runs before getting dismissed.

By the end of the first day's play, Yashasvi Jaiswal remained at the crease with an unbeaten 143 runs, while Virat Kohli stood unbeaten with 36 runs. The match will continue on day three of the Test on Friday, July 14.
