Islamabad United will commence their PSL 2024 campaign in the tournament opener by going up against defending champions Lahore Qalandars.

While Islamabad United starts as a formidable unit and one of the leading title contenders, the franchise itself will spend its initial PSL 2024 days without the services of several of its overseas recruits. Players like Matthew Forde, among others, are committed to other leagues, while Tom Curran opted out of the entire PSL 2024 owing to an injury.

Islamabad United will likely open the innings with blistering overseas openers Alex Hales and Colin Munro. The two cricketers bring much experience to the table and will be expected to provide boisterous starts at the top of the order for their franchise.

Pakistan’s 2024 Under-19 World Cup stars Shamyl Hussain and Ubaid Shah might also make a cut into the playing XI as replacements for several of Islamabad United’s overseas recruits. Azam Khan will likely don the wicketkeeping gloves, while Shadab Khan is slated to lead the side.

Even though Islamabad United’s PSL 2024 roster features some of the biggest T20 stars in the world, Pakistan pace maverick Naseem Shah is set to become the centre of attraction of the tournament opener.

The match marks Shah’s return to competitive cricket, considering he slumped to an injury during the 2023 Asia Cup last year.
