Speculation surrounding Rishabh Pant's future with the Delhi Capitals has been the talk of the town, with rumours suggesting his potential move to another franchise, particularly Chennai Super Kings (CSK). 

However, recent reports have cleared the air, indicating that Pant will stay with the Delhi Capitals for the 2025 season. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has commented on the matter, providing further insight into Pant’s retention and his significance to the Delhi franchise.

Earlier this week, reports surfaced that Rishabh Pant would be retained by the Delhi Capitals, dismissing speculations that he was leaving for CSK. Pant, who scored a crucial century in the ongoing Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai, has been the focal point of discussions regarding potential franchise changes.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra addressed the rumours head-on, suggesting that Pant's departure from Delhi Capitals is off the table. He mentioned that rumors of Pant becoming the captain of another franchise, such as Punjab Kings or Chennai Super Kings, have now been quelled with the news of his retention. 

Aakash Chopra pointed out that a hefty deal has been finalized between Pant and the Delhi Capitals, securing his services for the 2025 IPL season. He lauded Delhi’s decision to keep their star player, stating that retaining Pant is a significant move for the franchise.

"Rishabh Pant is not going anywhere. There were rumors that Rishabh Pant and the Delhi Capitals are parting ways. Ricky Ponting has gone to Punjab (Kings), so maybe Rishabh Pant could be Punjab's new captain, or else Rishabh Pant said that he likes playing in Chennai a lot, so maybe it was Chennai (Super Kings)," he said.

He praised the Delhi Capitals for ensuring that Pant remains a part of the team, he said

"However, there is a report on Cricbuzz that says that a full stop should be put on all the rumors. Rishabh Pant will be with the Delhi Capitals. A deal has been sealed with an inflated figure. Well done Delhi, this is one job you have done well. Keep him with you, you won't get anyone again like him." 

Rishabh Pant’s Journey With Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant’s association with the Delhi Capitals has been long and fruitful. Since making his IPL debut with the team in 2016, Pant has become an integral part of the franchise. He was initially bought for INR 1.9 crores and was retained for INR 8 crores in 2018. Ahead of the 2022 mega auction, Pant was retained for a staggering INR 16 crores.

In IPL 2024, Pant led the Capitals and amassed 446 runs in 13 innings at a strike rate of 155.40. Over his IPL career, he has played 111 matches, scoring 3284 runs with a strike rate of 148.93, making him the franchise's leading run-scorer.
