'A Bit Disappointed...' - Former Pacer Targets DC After Being Released For IPL 2024

India pacer and Kolkata Knight Riders’ newest recruit, Chetan Sakariya, said he was shocked and disappointed after he got to know that he was released by the Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, which was held in Dubai on December 19.

Sakariya, excited about the fresh opportunity with KKR, sees it as a chance to refine his skills under the new mentor of Gautam Gambhir. Previously a part of the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) season, Sakariya had limited opportunities, playing only a couple of games where he managed to secure three wickets but at the expense of a high economy rate of 11.13.

Reflecting on his performance, the left-arm pacer acknowledged that DC's decision to release him ahead of the IPL 2024 auction was justified. Recognizing that he was lower in the pecking order among pacers, with other Indian options like Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar available to DC, Sakariya admitted disappointment but understood the team's perspective.

"I wasn't shocked but I was a bit disappointed. But from the team's perspective, they made the right decision. I wasn't able to perform to the level that was expected from me. Maybe I didn't do justice to my price tag. They already have several Indian options in Ishant (Sharma) Bhai, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mukesh (Kumar) Bhai. After I didn't hit the ground running, I naturally went back in the pecking order," Chetan Sakariya told Sportskeeda.

Expressing his eagerness to learn from the experiences of sharing the dressing room with players like Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman, Sakariya looks forward to gaining insights from Australian speedster Mitchell Starc.

"I used to speak a lot with Mustafizur (Rahman) Bhai, and he used to guide me a lot about how to plan each delivery and how to make full use of the field placements. I hope I get to learn a lot from Mitchell Starc and add a lot more to my armory," added Sakariya.

Having played three matches for India after making his debut for India in 2021, Sakariya eyes a breakout season with KKR in IPL 2024, aspiring to make a big impact with the ball in hand in the IPL 2024.
