Virat Kohli rejoined his Indian teammates at Centurion on December 24, i.e., a couple of days prior to the commencement of the team’s opening Test match against hosts South Africa. Earlier, the batting veteran had taken a brief leave from the Indian camp to visit his wife Anushka Sharma in London.

Upon returning, the cricketer engaged himself in an intense training session with the bat at the nets. Considering the series against South Africa marks Virat Kohli’s comeback to the national side following the conclusion of the 2023 World Cup, he was welcomed to his training session at Centurion Park with a warm hug from Indian head coach Rahul Dravid.

Virat Kohli left the Indian camp in South Africa for a few days to visit his wife Anushka Sharma in London. The cricketer had obtained permission from the team management and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and his sudden exit ruled him out of India’s three-day intra-squad match in Pretoria.

Upon rejoining his teammates in Centurion in time for India’s opening Test match against South Africa, he was welcomed to the field with a hug from head coach Rahul Dravid.

Kohli last played for India at the 2023 World Cup, where he finished the competition as its highest run-aggregator to bag the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award.

The legendary Indian batsman distanced himself from the team’s subsequent T20I series against Australia at home, and also from the T20I and ODI series against South Africa in the ongoing tour.

Apart from Kohli, fellow seasoned campaigners Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin are also making their respective returns to competitive cricket through the course of the high-octane Test series against the Proteas.

The first of the two matches is set to go off at Centurion Park on December 26. The series will conclude by the first week of January at Cape Town.
