Rohit Sharma overcame India’s top-order jitters with a splendid century against England on Day 1 of their third Test match at Rajkot. Forming forces with Ravindra Jadeja at 33-3, the Indian captain belted 131 runs in all from just 196 balls, in an innings that featured 14 free-flowing boundaries and three towering sixes.

The innings marked Sharma’s 11th Test match century, and ensured Team India held the opening day’s honors by reaching 326-5 by stumps.

As one can expect, Sharma became the center of social media chatter through his belligerent effort, with a legion of cricket enthusiasts expressing their admirations for the Indian captain. Former Indian opener and Ranji Trophy stalwart Wasim Jaffer himself praised the legendary batter, albeit in a hilarious manner.

Wasim Jaffer mocks England team for Rohit Sharma’s ton

Wasim Jaffer, known for his hilarious takes on cricketing affairs, praised Indian captain Rohit Sharma after the latter smacked an imperial ton against the visiting English team at Rajkot.

Jaffer also took this opportunity to take a sly dig at Ben Stokes and co. with a humorous phrase in Hindi. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the cricketer-turned-coach wrote:

“It's almost as if when Rohit went out to bat someone pointed at the Eng team and said ‘Sir ye 11 log garden mein ghum rahe hai’” (Sir, these 11 players seem to be roaming in the garden).

Rohit Sharma’s partner-in-crime Ravindra Jadeja pumped out a century of his own during the twilight stages of the day to consolidate India’s firm batting stance on Day 1. Debutant Sarfaraz Khan also reaped in the benefits of pristine conditions on offer by smacking a near run-a-ball 62.

Centuries from Sharma and Jadeja, and a whirlwind knock from young Sarfaraz took Team India to 326-5 by stumps, as they aim to go above England in the series.
