The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season is almost eight months away, but the buzz has already started, as the ten teams will look to strengthen their side in the IPL trade window. Apart from the trade window, the mini auction will also provide the chance for the franchises to bolster the team.

While all the teams will look to add players to their ranks, the Chennai Super Kings will be relatively relaxed, as they have done quite a lot of business during last season by adding in youngsters. However, despite a new-looked team, CSK still has one thing to worry about - MS Dhoni.

The CSK legend is unsure about his participation in the IPL 2026 season, and knowing MSD, he generally makes surprising decisions. What if he decides to quit CSK before the 2026 season? who could replace him if it happens, here are the potential options.

1) Sanju Samson

Perhaps the easiest and the obvious choice to replace MS Dhoni in CSK, Sanju Samson's inclusion in the Yellow Army is written in the stars. Reports have stated that CSK are eyeing Samson in a possible trade deal, and could offer a player and a bit of cash to lure the RR captain to join them.

He is an ideal fit for the CSK team. Samson could lead the franchise and has shown his captaincy skills in the IPL. Also, he could be a long-term solution for the side. CSK needs a dynamic leader, just like MSD, and Samson fits the bill perfectly.

2) Ishan Kishan

A different keeper to Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan offers a quality left-arm batting option in the middle order for CSK. Kishan has had a topsy-turvy IPL career, with him shining for the Mumbai Indians. However, he had a rocky campaign for Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2025, and the franchise could release him ahead of next season.

This is where CSK come into play, as they need an aggressive batter in top 5, and Kishan could slot in that role.

3) Rishabh Pant

Everything aligns if Rishabh Pant joins CSK. He idolizes MS Dhoni, has followed in his footsteps in the Indian team, and has a great bond with him off the field.

Before Pant's move to LSG, there were reports that the southpaw could join CSK ahead of the IPL 2025 season, however, that move didn't materialise. He can be a long-term captaincy option for CSK, and could solve the number 4/5 puzzle, which the team faced last season.
