The art of hitting sixes is something not everyone has, not even the greatest ones. And to do that consistently at the international level is also something that not everyone is capable of doing. But some players are too good at smashing the ball over the fences and are doing it consistently at the greatest level. In the World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma has already broken a few records and is on the road to break another one. Here we have players with the art of depositing balls into the stands. 

Let us have a look at the top 10 players with the most sixes in the history of World Cup:


1. Chris Gayle (49 Sixes)

Christopher Henry Gayle, who is also known as the Universe Boss in the cricket world, is the one with the utmost power and skills to hit sixes for fun. He has 558 international sixes under his belt and was known for his wrath-hitting. 

The Jamaican cricketer has featured in five editions of the ODI World Cup, representing Caribbean cricket. He holds the record for most sixes in the history of the ODI World Cup as he has hammered 49 sixes in 34 innings.

The Proteas great, AB De Villiers is second on the list with 37 sixes in ODI World Cups. He was one of the key members of the South African team and led the team to the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup. 

Mr. 360 has featured in 20 matches for South Africa in the ODI World Cups. The right-hander had the ability to deposit the balls in every part of the ground, which is why he is known as Mr. 360 Degrees. He was a part of the team from the 2007 World Cup to the 2015 World Cup.


3. Rohit Sharma (34 Sixes)

The current Indian captain, Rohit Sharma has recently broken the record of Chris Gayle of the most sixes in international cricket. He is known by the name of 'Hitman' in the world of cricket and it is undoubtedly self-explanatory. 

The flawless hitter of the ball has 558 sixes in international cricket, which is the most by any cricketer in the world. The World Cup 2023 is his third edition and he has played 20 games so far, in which he has smashed 34 maximums. 


4. Ricky Ponting  (31 Sixes)

Ricky Ponting, also known to be the most successful captain of the Australian team. He was a part of the Australian team for five editions of the ODI World Cup from 1996 to 2011. He was a batter with utmost class and sheer determination as he was able to play for this long. 

In the 42 innings, he managed to smash 31 sixes and is the fourth on the list with the most sixes in the ODI World Cup history. He led the Australian team to lift the World Cup twice, the first in 2003 and the other in 2007. 


5. Brendon McCullum (29 Sixes)

Brendon McCullum, the Kiwi superstar was known to be one of the most lethal hitters in the world. And when it comes to hitting sixes, he would come down the track against the seamers to deposit the ball into the stands. 

His speedy footwork and power helped him smash 29 sixes in the ODI World Cup history. He took just 27 World Cup innings to hammer down fifth fifth-highest number of sixes as he represented the Blackcaps in four editions of the World Cup.


6. Herschelle Gibbs (28 Sixes)

Herschelle Gibbs is another South African on the list with 28 sixes in the ODI World Cups. He was a hard hitter and had the capability to smash even the greatest bowlers in the world. He was known for his outrageous shots only he has been able to play them so far. 

In his 14-year-long career, Gibbs featured in three editions of the World Cup for the Proteas. He played a total of 23 innings, where he managed to hammer down 28 sixes and scored over 1000 World Cup runs.


7. Sanath Jayasuriya (27 Sixes)

One of the greatest Sri Lankan batters, Sanath Jayasuriya was a left-handed batter and also the former captain of Sri Lanka. He led his team into the semi-finals of the 2003 World Cup and also was a part of the 1996 World Cup winning team. 

He featured in five ODI World Cups for Sri Lanka and played 38 World Cup games in total. In 37 innings, he managed to smash 27 sixes and also scored over 1100 runs in the World Cups. 


8. Sachin Tendulkar (27 Sixes)

The God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar has been one of the stalwarts in the cricket world. With 100 centuries in international cricket, he has been exceptional throughout his cricketing career. He always dreamt of winning the World Cup and finally fulfilled his dream in 2011, 

From the World Cup 1992 to the World Cup 2011, Sachin Tendulkar was a part of all six editions of the World Cup. He featured in 45 matches and smashed over 2200 runs in these five editions along with 27 sixes.


9. Eoin Morgan (26 Sixes)

Eoin Morgan, the former England captain who helped England lift their maiden World Cup trophy in 2019, is also one of the great hitters of the ball. The left-hander captained the English team in the two editions of the World Cup. 

Morgan featured in four ODI World Cups for England and captained the side in two of them. In a total of 27 World Cup innings, he smashed 26 sixes and 17 of them came in a single inning against Afghanistan in the 2019 World Cup.


10. Sourav Ganguly (25 Sixes)

The former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly was known to be one of the most aggressive captains in the world. He was one of the most successful Indian captains due to some historic wins under his leadership.

The left-hander featured in three editions of the World Cup and played a total of 21 games. He managed to hammer down 25 sixes and also scored over 1000 runs in the World Cups.
