Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is eager to take the field against India on October 19, as indicated by team director Khaled Mahmud. However, his participation in the India game depends on reaching full physical fitness.

Shakib experienced discomfort in his left quad during the game against New Zealand in Chennai. His running was restricted while batting in the first innings, and though he continued to challenge the bowlers, Lockie Ferguson eventually dismissed him.

An MRI was performed on the affected area after the match, although the BCB did not disclose the results. Physio Bayjedul Islam stated they would monitor his daily progress.

Despite the discomfort, Shakib managed to score 40 runs from 51 balls and bowled all ten of his overs before leaving the field. However, he couldn't attend the award ceremony due to his discomfort.

"Shakib is feeling better than before. He is not experiencing any pain now. But we cannot predict his condition on the field. He may practice and run between the wickets tomorrow, and then we can assess his fielding condition,"  commented Khaled Mahmud on Shakib's condition.

The team director emphasized that Shakib's fitness assessment is crucial for his inclusion in the lineup against India.

"His running will be observed tomorrow. He batted and bowled 10 overs even after suffering the injury in the previous game. If he feels no discomfort, he may be able to play. Shakib is eager to play, but his participation will depend on his achieving full fitness,"  he added.

Shakib has had a challenging World Cup so far. In the three games he's played, he has only managed 55 runs at an average of 18.33. However, he has been accurate with the ball, taking five wickets in the first three games.

Important game coming up for BAN against India

As both a leader and player, Shakib is a vital part of the Bangladesh setup, and the team is hopeful he will regain fitness for their crucial match against India.

Bangladesh has only won one of their three matches, having lost two in a row following their opening victory against Afghanistan. They face the host nation, India, in their next match in Pune on October 19.

Bangladesh was granted a two-day break in Pune. The Tigers will train in Pune on Tuesday and all eyes will be on Shakib in the training session.
