The ICC Cricket World Cup, organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC), takes place every four years and brings together teams from around the world to compete for the coveted trophy.
The inaugural World Cup was held in England in June 1975, and it gained popularity quickly. The first three editions of the World Cup - held in 1975, 1979, and 1983 - were all hosted by England. However, starting from the 1987 tournament, hosting duties have been shared among different countries. This sharing arrangement operates under an unofficial rotation system, allowing various ICC member countries to host matches.
Over the years, fourteen ICC members have had the opportunity to host matches in the Cricket World Cup. The 13th edition of the tournament will be hosted in India, who formerly co-hosted the tournament in 2011.
Over the course of the twelve editions of the ODI World Cup, a total of twenty teams have competed. Australia has been the most successful team in World Cup history, winning the tournament a record five times (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015). India and the West Indies have both won the tournament twice, with India emerging victorious in 1983 and 2011, and the West Indies winning in 1975 and 1979.
Take a look at the top five teams with most wins in ODI World Cup history.
