Harare, Zimbabwe - A Disappointing day for all the Zimbabwe cricket fans all over the world. Despite playing excellent cricket throughout the tournament their dreams of qualifying for the 2023 ODI World Cup were shattered badly on Tuesday, when Scotland managed to beat them by 31 runs.

On Tuesday, Zimbabwe decided to bowl first after winning the toss against Scotland. Scotland faltered to a low score of only 234 runs, with the help of Michael Leask who scored 48 runs, Scotland were able to put up a decent score on the board.

Scotland scored 54 runs from the last five overs with late flourish from Mark Watt, scoring 21 from 15 balls. While chasing the score, Zimbabwe had a terrible start, losing the first four wickets inside ten overs.

Chris sole ran-through the top-order of Zimbabwe picking three wickets up-front. At 37-4, with Sikandar Raza came in, Zimbabwe tried to steady the ship but when they lost Raza in the 18th over with only 91 runs, things went nasty for them.

Ryan Burl put in a lot of effort, scoring 84 runs but he was running short of partners at the other end, which ultimately resulted in a heart-breaking loss for them by 31 runs. When it mattered the most, they suffered back-to-back losses which hurt them badly.

Zimbabwe were looking like the favourites after they beat West Indies and played amazing cricket throughout the whole tournament.

Scotland came up with an accurate plan and their bowlers executed it perfectly. Their plan was to bowl stump-to-stump without giving much width to the Zimbabwe batsmen.

Zimbabwe’s batsmen fell to that trap, initially Chris Sole exploited their top-order, he consistently bowled between the good and fuller length, he got one wicket at the off-stump line which he bowled to Joylord Gumbie, he tried to attack him and fell in the trap.

Other fast bowlers, Brandon McMullen and Safyaan Sharif followed the exact plan successfully and got the wickets. Their spinners were accurate like always, Mark Watt bowled a good spell without giving much runs and picked the important wicket of Madhevere who was looking in good touch.

Other Spinners, Michael Leask took the game-changing wicket of Ryan Burl, which made the game in their favour. Similarly, their leggie, Chris Greaves gained the big wicket of Sikandar Raza, he floated it up outside off and tempted Raza to go for the big hit, Raza did not get it off the middle, and got out near long-off.

Overall, Scotland bowlers were disciplined and accurate in their bowling, which resulted in a fantastic win and kept their hopes alive in the tournament.

Conclusion

Cricket is a sport that often presents both victories and defeats, and it's through these ups and downs that teams and individuals grow. It's important for Zimbabwe's team and their supporters to remain positive, support the players, and continue to show resilience and determination. Now it's important for Zimbabwe to regroup, learn from their experience, and find ways to bounce back stronger.

They can use the disappointment as motivation to improve their performance, identify areas for development, and work on strategies to achieve better results in future matches. With Scotland winning over Zimbabwe, they and Netherlands remain the only two candidates still eligible to book the last available World Cup berth.
