Now, in IPL 2025, Suryakumar Yadav shines the brightest, breaking records with the highest runs ever in a single season by an MI batter. On this special day, let’s revisit MI’s top five batters with most runs in a single season of IPL.

5. 540 - Lendl Simmons (2015)

Lendl Simmons remains a cherished name among die-hard MI fans for his stellar 2015 season. Acquired in 2014, the West Indies opener was vital at the top order, especially in 2015 when he scored 540 runs, including six half-centuries. Two of those came in crucial playoff matches, playing a key role in guiding Mumbai Indians to their second IPL title. His consistency and calmness under pressure made him an absolute match winner.

4. 553 - Sachin Tendulkar (2011)

Sachin Tendulkar, in the twilight of his illustrious career, was a delight to watch in the blue and gold of Mumbai Indians. Fresh from World Cup glory in April 2011, the master blaster was the backbone of MI’s batting lineup as he brought class and stability at the top of the order, scoring an impressive 553 runs at an average of 42.5 across 16 matches, showcasing his timeless brilliance and playing a crucial role in MI’s strong campaign back in that period.

3. 605 - Suryakumar Yadav (2023)

Suryakumar Yadav's 2023 season for MI was arguably one of the finest batting displays in IPL history. After a slow start, the dynamic right-hander found his rhythm and single-handedly turned Mumbai Indians’ fortunes around. He smashed 605 runs at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 181.1, including five half-centuries and a stunning century. His explosive form reignited MI’s campaign, leading them to the playoffs and lighting up what initially seemed like a bleak season.

2. 618 - Sachin Tendulkar (2010)

The Master Blaster features again, this time at second place for his 2010 batting masterclass, a season where Sachin Tendulkar seemed to reinvent himself into a completely new avatar. Showcasing remarkable adaptability to T20 cricket, he looked in vintage touch, dominating bowlers with grace and precision. Tendulkar won the Orange Cap that year, scoring 618 runs at an immaculate average of 47.5 and a strike rate of 132.6, including five fifties, a record which stood tall for more than 15 years.

Suryakumar Yadav makes a stunning return to the 600-run club, this time grabbing the top spot by breaking a 15-year-old record held by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. In IPL 2025, SKY has been in a league of his own, amassing 640 runs at the end of the league stage with a blistering strike rate of 168. What makes it even more special is his dominance on some of the trickiest batting surfaces at Mumbai’s home ground this season and there is more to come with the playoffs beckons for the five-time champions.
