The second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 has risen like a sun for Mumbai Indians' brightest star - Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed his maiden IPL hundred on Friday evening, coupling it with his three T20 International hundreds. With the help of Surya's unbeaten 103 off just 49 deliveries, MI shunned the Gujarat Titans and their bowlers with a total tally of 218-5 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Interestingly, Surya has become just the fifth MI batter to score an IPL hundred, and the first in nine seasons.

The 32-year-old came in the seventh over of the innings at a crucial juncture of the game, when MI lost both openers in a single Rashid Khan over. However, SKY never let his chips down and attacked all kinds of bowlers.

He initially studded a partnership with Nehal Wadhera before joining hands with debutant Vishnu Vinod. But when he lost the young-and-dynamic batters, the No.1 T20I batter took the toll on his firm shoulders, hitting 54 runs in the last three overs, of which the majority came off SKY's blade.

Striking at 210.20, Surya slammed 11 boundaries and six maximums against the Titans and bettered his personal IPL best score, which interestingly came in MI's last game - an 83 versus Bangalore.

Now, the MI batter has entered the top run-getters club of IPL 2023, holding the current third spot, with 479 runs, in the race to purple cap after RCB's Faf du Plessis (576) and RR's Yashasvi Jaiswal (575).
