Highest T20 scores on debut [Source: @cricinsights1, @Ashwathama_a, @canadiancricket/x]
T20 debuts are usually built on survival instincts like a glitzy cameo, and rarely with a headline-making knock. Yet, few batters have managed to flip this script with remarkable authority, marking their first steps in the format with emphatic statements.
Here, we take a look at five batters who have scored the highest number of runs in a single innings on their respective T20 debuts.
5. Shivam Bhambri – 106 vs Himachal Pradesh, 2019
Chandigarh cricketer Shivam Bhambri struck an electrifying 106 from 57 balls on his T20 debut, doing so against Himachal Pradesh in Chandigarh during the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Aged 24 at the time, Bhambri launched 11 fours and seven huge sixes in his innings as the hosts charted a competitive 167-5 in 20 overs. Maintaining a strike rate of a staggering 185.96 on a challenging surface, the rest of his teammates compounded just 61 runs from the remaining 63 deliveries of the innings.
Shivam Bhambri’s knock ended up making a huge difference as Chandigarh won the match by nine runs in a rain-affected run-chase.
4. Matthew Spoors – 108* vs Philippines, 2022
Canada opener Matthew Spoors started off his international career with a record knock of 108* from just 66 balls against Philippines back in February 2022 during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Qualifier A tournament in Al Amerat. The belligerent right-hander belted 14 fours and three huge sixes in his innings to blaze Canada to 216-1 in 20 overs.
To date, Matthew Spoors’ blitzkrieg marks the highest individual score ever recorded in a T20I match by any debutant.
3. Moin Khan – 112 vs Lahore Lions, 2005
Unlike others on the list, Moin Khan was already an international veteran by the time he played his first T20 match. Turning up for Karachi Dolphins as captain in Lahore during the 2005 ABN-AMRO T20 Cup, the blistering ball-striker bludgeoned 112 runs from just 59 balls, as he went berserk with his trademark six-hitting spree. Dispatching eight fours and six huge sixes, Moin Khan’s blinder elevated his team to a match-winning total of 228-7 in 20 overs against the Lahore Lions.
Unfortunately, Moin Khan never found a place in Pakistan’s T20I setup despite making waves in his brief five-match T20 career.
1. Amit Pasi – 114 vs Services, 2025
Baroda opener Amit Pasi smeared 114 runs off just 55 balls on his competitive debut during his team’s Elite Group C match of the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Going up against Services at Hyderabad’s Gymkhana Ground, Pasi clattered 10 fours and nine maximums as Baroda carted 220-5 in 20 overs batting first.
With no prior experience of playing competitive domestic cricket, Amit Pasi was fittingly rewarded with the ‘Player of the Match’ honours for his match-winning ton.
1. Bilal Asif – 114 vs Abbottabad Falcons, 2015
More than four years after making his competitive debut, Bilal Asif hammered down 114 runs from just 48 balls for the Sialkot Stallions against Abbottabad Falcons during their Group A clash of the 2015 Cool & Cool Presents Haier Super8 T20 Cup. The cricketer struck at 237.50 in an innings glittered with eight fours and 10 sixes at the Iqbal Stadium in Faisalabad.
Bilal Asif also picked up a wicket later in the game to cap a remarkable all-round ‘Player of the Match’ performance for himself. The innings fast-tracked Asif into Pakistan’s national ODI squad, as he was picked for a short white-ball trip to Zimbabwe later that year.
