In a sensational last-group stage clash of the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Tripura scripted one of the most memorable wins in their history, edging past domestic heavyweight Karnataka in a dramatic super over in Ahmedabad. The hero of the hour was their all-rounder Manisankar Murasingh, whose blistering performance turned the game on its head.

Karnataka, after winning the toss, elected to bat first and posted a formidable 197-run total. BR Sharath led the charge with a quickfire 44 off just 20 balls, while the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Devdutt Padikkal, and Macneil Noronha contributed crucial runs as well. Murasingh was the pick of the bowlers for Tripura, returning impressive figures of 2 for 30 in his four overs.

Chasing 197, Tripura entered the game knowing 174 runs were enough to avoid relegation, but they had plans to go one step further. Hanuma Vihari and Sridam Paul gave them a flying start, adding a 65-run opening stand inside the first five overs. However, wickets tumbled regularly, reducing Tripura to 106 for 6 inside the 13th over.

That’s when Murasingh unleashed a spectacular innings, smashing 69 off 35 balls, including 2 fours and 6 sixes, turning the match on its head. His sensational effort ended with a run-out, leaving Tripura needing 2 off the final delivery.

The game went into a super over, where Paul blasted again, scoring 16 off four balls, and Murasingh added a boundary, setting a target of 23. In reply, Karnataka stumbled early as Smaran Ravichandran fell on the very first ball, and Abhinav Manohar along with Noronha could only manage 18 runs in the remaining five balls, handing Tripura a historic and emphatic victory.

Tripura’s triumph, powered by Murasingh’s all-round brilliance, will be remembered as one of the most dramatic moments in their domestic cricket journey. Having also beaten Delhi earlier in the tournament, they capped off their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025 campaign on a high with two wins from seven games.
