After a thrilling ODI series against the South African side, the Indian team marches on and will take on the Proteas in a gruelling T20I series, starting from Tuesday, December 9. The five matches provide a great chance for both sides to test their bench strengths and execute the final plans before the T20 World Cup 2026.

Ahead of the first match at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, pitch details has been revealed for the all-important clash and the batters will be licking their lips as plenty of runs are on the cards.

Barabati stadium pitch details: Red soil wicket prepared for 1st T20I

According to reports by Cricbuzz, the first T20I between India and South Africa will witness a red-soil wicket being rolled out, and there is also a hint of green tinge and bounce on offer. This makes up for a really good surface for the batters as plenty of runs are on offer, as this is the hallmark of a red-soil wicket.

Moreover, a red-soil wicket under lights can be really quick, and it could help the bowlers in the initial six overs of play. The wicket is likely to stay true and if the dew comes, the bowlers might fail to grip the ball in the second innings.

India's team combination as per pitch details

With plenty of runs on the card, India will look to go in with a balanced approach with plenty of all-rounders in the scheme of things. With Varun Chakaravarthy being a sure-starter, the toss-up for the second spinner choice could be between Axar Patel and Washington Sundar, with Kuldeep Yadav likely getting a rest.

Also, with Shubman Gill coming back, he is set to open the batting alongside Abhishek Sharma, and that leaves another toss-up between Sanju Samson and Jitesh Sharma for the keeper’s role. Other than that, the entire side looks settled.
