The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 is set for a Pakistani pace boost as young fast bowler Abbas Afridi joins the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The tournament begins on August 14, and Afridi will link up with fellow Pakistan pacer Naseem Shah, who is making his CPL return after last playing for the Patriots in 2021.
The CPL 2025 is scheduled from August 14 to September 21. A total of 34 games will be played, including the playoffs. St Lucia Kings will feature as defending champions.
St Kitts & Nevis Patriots Load Up Pace Battery With Pakistani Stars
In an official announcement, the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots confirmed the signing of Pakistan pacer Abbas Afridi for the upcoming season of the CPL. While the Patriots have not revealed which player Afridi will replace in their original squad, the 24-year-old brings proven skills from both domestic and international leagues.
He featured in the Bangladesh Premier League last year for Fortune Barishal and also had an impressive run in the Pakistan Super League, where he has taken 60 wickets in 40 matches since debuting in 2021. Afridi started his PSL career with Karachi Kings, enjoyed three successful seasons with Multan Sultans, and returned to Karachi Kings this year.
Along with Afridi, Naseem Shah will also be playing CPL 2025 for the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. He previously played seven CPL matches in 2021 and took six wickets at an economy of 7.68.
Afridi and Shah will not be the only Pakistani players in CPL 2025. Mohammad Nawaz will also make his CPL debut with the Patriots, adding all-round strength.
More Pakistani Faces To Feature In CPL 2025
Apart from Abbas Afridi, Naseem Shah and Mohammad Nawaz, a few more Pakistani players will be seen in CPL 2025. Mohammad Amir will represent Trinbago Knight Riders. Playing for his fourth CPL team since 2021, he has 51 wickets in the tournament.
Usman Tariq will be making his CPL debut for Trinbago Knight Riders after standout PSL seasons. Imad Wasim will return to the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons after being re-signed by the franchise. Also, Iftikhar Ahmed will be joining the Guyana Amazon Warriors as replacement for USA's Hassan Khan.
