The year 2024 has bore witness to a surge of remarkable individual batting performances in international cricket. Certain players, however, have managed to ace consistent run-making in each of the three forms of the game.

Here, we put a spotlight on five batters who have accumulated the highest number of runs across all three international formats.

Ben Duckett, one of England’s leading BazBall radicals at the top of the order, accrued 1,012 runs within the first nine months of the year 2024 from 26 innings across all formats. The attacking left-hander started off his year by accumulating 343 of those runs on testing Indian conditions. Duckett added 364 more runs to his tally off the subsequent six home Tests against West Indies and Sri Lanka.

Aided with three half-centuries and a scintillating ton at Rajkot, the dynamic English opener racked up 707 runs in 2024 Tests at a strike rate of nearly 90. In ODIs, Ben Duckett mounted 305 runs from five matches against Australia with a century and two additional fifty-plus scores as part of his 1,012-run collection.

India’s batting sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal whacked successive Test-winning double hundreds against England earlier this year. Tallying 712 runs across five matches to headline India’s 4-1 triumph, Jaiswal finds himself as the year’s third highest run-maker in Tests with more than 800 runs overall in eight matches.

The dashing opener also made 293 runs in his eight T20I appearances for India, at an astronomical top-order strike rate of 172.35. Yashasvi Jaiswal’s no-holds-barred approach even fetched him turbulent fifty-plus scores against Afghanistan and Zimbabwe. Overall, Jaiswal has minted 1,099 runs in 21 innings spanning 16 matches, at a prolific average of 57.84 in the first nine months of 2024.

Sri Lankan top-order batter Pathum Nissanka has accumulated 1,165 runs from 28 all-format innings of the year 2024 until the start of October. After missing a handful of matches against Zimbabwe in January, he belted 343 runs in three ODIs against Afghanistan, which included a match-winning double ton and a century. Nissanka also clobbered a 30-ball 60 in one of the T20Is later in the same month against the same opponents.

The 26-year-old cracked his third century of the year the following month with a run-a-ball 114 in Chattogram. While Nissanka has scored 598 runs in nine matches to lead the run-scoring charts of the year’s ODI platform, the cricketer also drew considerable success in Tests, with his 127* at The Oval being the headline of his 247-run collection.
