The 2007 T20 World Cup was a huge event in cricket, especially for Indian star Yuvraj Singh. He made headlines by hitting six sixes in a row in one over. Recently, Yuvraj shared the story behind this incredible feat and talked about the heated exchange he had with England's all rounder Andrew Flintoff.
On the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Yuvraj explained how things got tense between him and Flintoff during the tournament. Flintoff was bowling well, and Yuvraj Singh felt challenged by some of his comments. After hitting a couple of good shots, Flintoff insulted him, saying, “F... shit shots” when Yuvraj took a single.
The situation got even more heated when Flintoff reportedly spat towards Yuvraj. This act upset Yuvraj, who then confronted Flintoff with his bat in hand, indicating he was ready to take action. “I showed him my bat, saying that you know where it's going to go,” he recalled. The umpire had to step in to calm things down between the two players.
After the confrontation, Yuvraj went on to play one of the best innings of his career. Inspired by the earlier tension, he hit Stuart Broad for six sixes in a single over, making history as the first player to do so in T20I cricket. He finished with an incredible 58 runs off just 16 balls, also setting a record for the fastest fifty in T20Is, which he achieved in only 12 balls.
India’s Victory Over England
Yuvraj’s fantastic performance helped India score a total of 218 runs for 4 wickets, leading them to win the match against England by 18 runs. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, the young Indian team showed great skill and determination. They went on to win the T20 World Cup by defeating their biggest rivals, Pakistan, in the final.
