'Work's to be Done in Terms of...,' Says Rashid Khan Despite a Clinical Win over MI

What was expected to be a crackerjack concluded as a catastrophe after Mumbai Indians got derailed by Hardik Pandya's Gujarat Titans at their forte Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Courtesy of the batting mavericks of Shubman Gill, Abhinav Manohar & David Willer and the death trap laid by Rashid Khan and Noor Ahmad, GT registered a clinical win of 54 runs over the defending champions.

Despite having heavyweights like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Cameron Green and Tim David in their force, MI made a chase of 208 runs like a trip to Mars.

They lost half of their team for 59, and the wrecker-of-chief for that disaster was GT's wily spinner Rashid Khan, who had the figures of 2/6 after his first two overs before ending the night with 2/27.

Talking to the broadcaster post the clinical victory over MI, the prolific tweaker spoke about being consistent with lines and lengths in a format like T20. Interestingly, this season, Rashid has had an economy rate of 8.07, the highest for the leggie in any IPL season.

"(I) need to be more consistent with my lines and lengths, which I haven't been until this game. (I am) happy with the wickets tonight. Still, work is to be done in terms of lines and lengths. Yeah, I was good in my first three overs," Rashid mentioned.

Despite his economy being on the higher side, Rashid has been phenomenal with his bowling average (16.14) and strike rate (12.00) - his soundest in the IPL thus far. And, the Afghanistan spinner returned to his economical best against Mumbai, thanks to country-mate Noor Ahmad, who bowled in a tangle with Rashid.

"Noor Ahmad is an excellent character. It's good to be playing with him and bowling alongside him. He practises repeatedly in the nets. Even in the gym, he comes to me and takes me away to practise as he wants to improve every time he plays. He bowls to me at the gym. He has done well tonight, and it's an excellent prospect for Gujarat Titans and also for Afghanistan."

In IPL 2023, Rashid has scalped 14 wickets after seven innings. He and Gujarat will next face Kolkata on Saturday. Meanwhile, Mumbai will be at loggerheads with Rajasthan on Sunday.
