'Captaincy is Something Where I Can...,' GT Skipper Hardik Pandya Speaks After Emphatic Win

Gujarat Titans (GT) registered yet another comprehensive victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. They thrashed Mumbai Indians (MI) by a whopping 55 runs to take the second spot in the IPL points table.

Having batted first, the defending champions, Gujarat Titans posted a mammoth 207 for 6, courtesy some sublime hitting from Shubman Gill (56), Abhinav Manohar (42) and David Miller 46). The total was a challenging one on the Ahmedabad track and the GT spinners made the job difficult for the MI Batters.

The Rohit Sharma led side were never really in the hunt and lost half their side inside 59 runs. Suryakumar Yadav and Nehal Wadhera tried to resurrect the innings, but the target was too big to overhaul as they lost their second successive game.

After the match, a delighted Hardik Pandya spoke to the official broadcasters and was happy with how thing went for his side.

Speaking on his captaincy:

"The captaincy has taken call at situation rather than plan as couple of sixes can change your plan as well. Captaincy is something where I back my instincts and it has worked for me so far."

Hardik also talked about his equation with coach Ashish Nehra:

"It become very easy as me and Ashish Nehra have the same mindset. 99% we back our similar calls. The batters like pace like David, Green and Surya but we have the kind of spinners which they find difficult to read as well so it felt like closing early as couple of games which we were winning, we lost and I didn't want to take this game far."

The GT skipper also showered praise on young Abhinav Manohar, who took the game by storm:

"The amount of balls Abhinav hits everyday, the credit goes to his hard work and team management. He bats at least a couple of hours in the nets. He has rectified few things from the last season. We are very happy the way he is hitting and look for more from him."

GT continue to climb up the points table, while Mumbai Indians are tottering at the seventh spot with their fourth defeat of the IPL 2023 season.
