In an unfortunate turn of events, former Indian fast bowler David Johnson passed away on June 20, 2024, after falling from his balcony in Bengaluru. David apparently fell from the balcony of his fourth-floor apartment in Bengaluru and lost his life.

Sources say that while police are suspecting a case of suicide, other angles of a potential foul play will also be duly investigated. Notably, the 52-year-old had reportedly enrolled in a de-addiction centre in the city for his alcohol addiction problem.

That being said, while Indian cricket is mourning the death of one of its own, let's learn more about a lost hero, David Johnson.

All you need to know about David Johnson

David Johnson, born and raised in Karnataka, was a former Indian cricketer who played as a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He rose to fame for his sheer raw pace and grabbed headlines after consistently clocking over 150 kph speed.

After playing domestic cricket for Karnataka in the early 90s, David Johnson made his Test debut for India on October 10, 1996, against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Delhi. His second and final Test match came against South Africa in November 1996.

Despite a promising start and the ability to bowl at a brisk pace, Johnson's international career was short-lived. In his two Test matches, he managed to take just 3 wickets.

Eventually, with injuries and inconsistencies taking a toll, David Johnson's career fizzled out. He retired in the early 2000s and did odd jobs for survival before KSCA administrator Brijesh Patel met his financial needs.

Johnson also tried his hand at coaching. But just like his cricketing career, that stint also ended prematurely.
