A 17-year-old teenager Prakhar Chaturvedi from Karnataka, took the cricketing world by storm by scoring an exhilarating knock of 404* runs in 638 deliveries in the U-19 Cooch Behar final against Mumbai in Shimoga on Sunday.

The opening batter’s remarkable innings helped Karnataka post 890 runs on board in response to Mumbai’s 380/10 in the first inning. While the game was drawn, Karnataka was awarded the win owing to a mammoth first-innings lead.

That being said, Prakhar Chaturvedi scripted multiple records with his extraordinary display of gritty and ruthless innings. He surpassed former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh’s 24-year-old record of having the highest individual score in the tournament final (358 runs). Not only that, but he ranked second on the list of highest individual scores in the tournament, only second to Vijay Zol’s 451* for Maharashtra in 2012.

Interestingly, Prakhar Chaturvedi wasn’t picked for the U19 World Cup squad for this year. However, in a sudden change of fate, the batter scripted his own destiny to leave an everlasting impact on Indian domestic cricket. He now stands on the brink of a debut in Karnataka’s senior Ranji Trophy squad.

That being said, let’s dwell on the record-breaking batter’s journey to excellence.

Prakhar Chaturvedi, a 17-year-old teenager, hails from a well-to-do family in Karnataka. His father works as a software engineer in the IT hub Bangalore, whereas his mother is a scientist with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Not only that, the batter is also sharp in academics, as he cleared Class XII and BA with flying colors.

Prakhar Chaturvedi trained at Padukone-Dravid Centre of Sports Excellence in Bangalore under the supervision of coach K Jeshwant. His father revealed how the kid used to travel 100 km back and forth in a day to practice at the Six Cricket Academy located in the sports center.

However, his coach, K Jeshwan, opened up about Chaturvedi’s initial struggle. He first joined the academy at 11 years of age but began making noise after the Covid pandemic. However, selectors repeatedly ignored his efforts, and that’s when the coach stepped on him. He convinced the U-16 selectors to allow him a chance to showcase his talent, and the rest is history.

Having said that, with the Ranji Trophy being Prakhar Chaturvedi’s next goal, the young talent is just getting started in his professional cricket journey. If luck favors the brave, hopefully, the kid could bag an IPL contract in the imminent future.
