Just like the Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, the defending champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), have picked some underrated buys in the mini auction, and one of them was Madhya Pradesh’s Mangesh Yadav. Surprisingly, the all-rounder was roped in by RCB for a whopping price of 5.20 crore, and this raised many eyebrows.
Mangesh was RCB’s second most expensive buy of the IPL 2026 mini auction and there is a good reason why the franchise went heavy on him on the auction table.
Meet Mangesh Yadav, RCB's new left-arm seamer
Mangesh might be an unknown commodity, but the Madhya Pradesh all-rounder has made quite a name for himself in a short period of time. A 23-year-old left-handed batter and an all-rounder, he was first scouted at the Madhya Pradesh Premier League 2025, where he scalped 14 wickets in just six matches, with an average of just 12.
The all-rounder also bagged three four-wicket hauls as he was put in the spotlight and RCB came calling in the mini auction. He is known for his hard-hitting batting lower down the order and is also known for his variations with the ball in hand.
Will Mangesh find a place in RCB's playing XI?
RCB’s bowling unit is largely settled with Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Suyash Sharma dominating the proceedings. There is also Yash Dayal in the scheme of things, but his off-field controversies might not allow him to take part in the league next year. Hence, the side needs a like-for-like left-arm replacement, and Mangesh fits the bill perfectly.
RCB could use him as a surprise package as not a lot of batters have played against him and he could be their X factor in the next IPL season.
