They say real recognizes real and Rohit Sharma might have just had a sixth sense back in 2020. Fast forward five years and Shubman Gill is living proof of that prophecy.

Rohit Sharma Predicted The Future And Shubman Gill Has Made It Happen

From being dubbed “future” by the Hitman to becoming the man for India in Test cricket, Gill has truly arrived. In just his first series as Test captain, the youngster has not only broken records but is rewriting them in style.

At Edgbaston, Shubman Gill did something only the great Sunil Gavaskar had done in Indian cricket, score a double century and a hundred in the same Test. After bossing the first innings with a career-best 269, Gill returned in the second innings like a man on a mission and smashed a stunning 161 off just 162 balls. India declared on 427/6 and set England a mammoth 608-run target.

This wasn’t just Gill scoring runs, it was Gill leading the charge, setting the tempo and showing the world what fearless Test captaincy looks like. The 25-year-old had already kicked off the series with a hundred in Leeds and now he has taken it up a few notches.

Back in 2020, Gill wished Rohit Sharma on his birthday with a tweet that read:

“Well no one does pull shots better than the #Hitman. Happy Birthday Rohit Sharma!”

To which Rohit had coolly replied:

“Thanks future”

Now that tweet is doing the rounds again on social media and rightfully so. It is giving everyone goosebumps because Rohit Sharma might just have seen what we are witnessing now, a generational talent stepping up and owning the Indian Test side.

IND vs ENG Scorecard

After four days of play, England are staring down the barrel at 72/3, chasing an Everest-like target of 608 on the final day. Big names like Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett and Joe Root are already back in the hut.

With Ollie Pope and Harry Brook in the middle, it’s yet to be seen whether the English camp brings out their BazBall game or plays safe to secure a draw.
