Shubman Gill Century - (Source : @Johns/X.com)
India captain Shubman Gill is in the form of his life as the right-handed batter has followed his double hundred in the first innings with a century in the second innings. The 25-year-old came to bat when India were 96/2 and took 130 deliveries to bring up his eighth Test century.
Further, the right-handed batter matched Sunil Gavaskar's record to become the second Indian to score a double hundred and a century in the same match. The Little Master was the first Indian to achieve this feat when he stunned the West Indies at Port of Spain in 1971. Overall, he is the ninth player to score a double hundred and a century in the same Test.
Shubman Gill Brings Up 500 Runs In Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy
Gill loves playing against England as he slammed his fifth Test ton against The Three Lions, out of which three have come in this series, that too as captain.
Most importantly, Gill is eyeing another massive feat by Sunil Gavaskar, which is the most runs by an Indian batter in a series. Notably, the Little Master's 774 run fest against West Indies in 1970/71 is still the most by an Indian player.
Talking about Gill, the right-handed batter is going through a purple patch and has already scored 524 runs in four innings, averaging 174.67. Thus, the 25-year-old requires just 251 more runs in the next six innings to go past Sunil Gavaskar.
At present, Gill has already broken Little Master's record for most runs in a single Test as he has amassed 369 runs in the ongoing Test vs England.
Gill Follows Kohli's Footsteps
Gill is breaking records left, right, and centre as the India captain has also equalled Virat Kohli's feat for most centuries in first four innings as India skipper. It is Gill's third in the last four innings, equalling former India captain's feat.
The knock has helped Gill keep his promise he made before the start of the series. Notably, the 25-year-old, before leaving for England, had promised that he would look to be the best batter of the series.
