On Tuesday, July 9, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah announced that Gautam Gambhir has been roped in to succeed Rahul Dravid as the next head coach of Team India.

Gambhir's tenure will begin with the upcoming Sri Lanka series on July 27. At the moment, the former India opener has presented his choices for his support staff.

There are reports that Gautam asked BCCI to approach Jonty Rhodes for fielding coach position and also expressed interest in signing Ryan Ten Doeschate who was a part of his support staff during his stint with KKR.

Amid Gambhir's demand to hire foreign coaches, his old remarks have gone viral where he disassociated himself from the idea of having a foreigner as India's coach and stated that they can ruin Indian cricket.

"Yes, we don't want and need foreign coaches for our team, they can spoil your cricket and team, what's wrong with Indian coaches? What have they done wrong? We won the 2007 T20 World Cup under the coaching of Lal Chand Rajput," he said.

Gambhir had even slammed former India coaches Duncan Fletcher and John Wright for their underwhelming performance.

"What special work was done by Duncan Fletcher and Johnn Wright? We have to show trust in our local players and coaches," he said.

It is also worth noting that India won their fifty-over World Cup after 28 years in 2011 under the guidance of a foreign coach Gary Kirsten.
