On this day, two years ago today, the cricketing community witnessed an unprecedented display of spirit and character from the Indian team which left everyone in awe and admiration.

India scripted history on this day in 2021 at Lord's

With all odds stacked against them, Virat Kohli’s men produced a turnaround for the ages and secured a phenomenal 151-run win over England at the Lord's in London.

Batting first, India posted 364 riding on the back of a stunning century by KL Rahul. In response, Joe Root’s 180 helped England gain a narrow 27-run lead with the hosts getting bowled out for 391.

The contest was evenly poised after the first innings, with India conceding a slender lead. However, their back were against the wall in the second innings as they were left languishing at 194-7.

The visitors needed a miracle and pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami produced one. They defied England's bowling attack and took India to 298/8 with a scintillating 89-run partnership.

Shami shined with a well-made half-century, his second in Tests, remaining not out on 56. Bumrah also played his part with an unbeaten 34, leading India to set a competitive target of 272 runs.

Taking the field with a fiery motivation instilled by Captain Virat Kohli, the Indian pace attack wreaked havoc. The hosts' openers were dispatched in the mere blink of an eye, falling within the first ten balls of the innings. As England’s hopes waned, India’s ambitions soared.

The mainstay of England's resistance, Joe Root, was soon dispatched post-lunch, and Mohammed Siraj, in a match-turning performance, sent both Moeen Ali and Sam Curran packing in successive deliveries.

Bumrah's cunning slow delivery ended Ollie Robinson's resistance. The victory drums began to beat louder after Jos Buttler’s departure and the noise reached its peak when Siraj outclassed James Anderson to seal an unforgettable win.

The hard-fought victory handed India a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. The win was particularly sweet given the rain-marred match at Trent Bridge, where India's likely victory was stolen by the inclement weather.

It also marked India's third Test win at Lord’s since their maiden triumph in 1986. They had earlier tasted victory at the venue in 2014 and then, on this memorable day in 2021.
