Tilak Varma's Surprise Inclusion Highlights India's Asia Cup Squad Revealed By Star Sports' Expert Panel

image-lld8j6gaCalls for Tilak Varma's inclusion in India's ODI set-up are growing by the day

As the clock ticks down to the Asia Cup 2023, cricketing circles are abuzz with speculation and anticipation. However, Team India faces its own challenges, with uncertainty over key players due to injury concerns.

Ravi Shastri led panel bats for Tilak Varma's inclusion in India's Asia Cup squad

Star Sports' panel, graced by former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri, has unveiled its preferred 15-man brigade for the Asia Cup 2023, commencing August 30.

The young gun Tilak Varma is a surprise inclusion, fresh from his T20I debut against West Indies. Although he's yet to feature in the ODIs, his potential has clearly caught the panel's attention.

The team's spin arsenal is packed with heavyweights: Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and the ever-reliable Ravindra Jadeja. In the pace department, stalwarts like Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul Thakur, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya have been included by the panel.

Batting seems rock solid with the likes of Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan, the duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Varma. Kishan has been picked up as the sole wicketkeeping option.

However, eyebrows are raised over the omission of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer. Both are currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, sweating it out in 50-over match practice games. Their readiness in batting and fielding is crucial, especially with the looming World Cup.

With the dynamic mix of youth and experience, Team India seems set for the Asia Cup challenge. Fans will be eager to see if this ensemble can set the stage for the World Cup 2023 conquest.
