Former India spinner Amit Mishra has been in the news since Monday, as his recent comments for Virat Kohli on a podcast caused a stir on social media.

Notably, the 41-year-old praised Rohit Sharma for his humility,  but stated that Virat has changed as a person after becoming India captain and achieving success in his career.

"I have seen Virat change a lot. We had almost stopped talking. When you get fame and power, they think people are reaching out to them for a purpose. I was never one of those. I have known Cheeku since the time he was 14 when he used to eat Samosas when he needed Pizza every night. But there is a huge difference between the Cheeku I knew and Virat Kohli the captain. Whenever he meets me, he is very respectful, but it's obviously not the same anymore.”

It is not the first time that Amit Mishra has been involved in a controversy as he has even gone to jail after his arrest in 2015 in a sexual assault case.

Why Was Amit Mishra Arrested?

It was in 2015 when South Africa had toured India for a multi-format series. Mishra's female friend filed a case against the leg-spinner alleging him of sexually harassing her in a hotel in Bengaluru.

Following the allegations, the Bengaluru police had questioned Amit Mishra for three hours and later arrested him before releasing him out on bail. The victim, who had known Amit for over three years reported that she had gone to Mishra's hotel room in his absence and when he returned to his room, the duo had a heated exchange following which the leg-spinner assaulted her.

An FIR was also lodged as the police booked him under three different sections. However, the victim later withdrew the case and stated that they were still friends.

“I am waiting for Mishra to appear in the police station. We both will amicably withdraw the case. We were friends. We fought, and continue to remain friends hereafter,” she had said earlier.

Amit, who last played for India in 2017, is still active in IPL and features for Lucknow Super Giants.
